It's tough to follow her previous releases like Fix My Dick and African Mayonnaise, but the Austin-based chanteuse does it again with her latest song, which is out today!
Why do you say you’re one of the last vaudeville stars?
I don’t think it’s because people aren’t as talented. I think it’s because it’s the nature of the game now. It [used to] take years to become a really polished star and now you turn on the TV and there is some kind of contest and suddenly somebody’s a star in 20 minutes! Unfortunately that doesn’t last very long, because there is always someone the very next week. So I think that instantaneous thing has changed. At one point Andy Warhol said, “In the future I think everybody’s going to be famous for 15 minutes.” Right? Well, it’s turned into 15 seconds.

Sunday at 6PM, Frank Decaro will air his Oscars Are A Drag pre-Oscar special with commentary Flotilla Debarge, Lillie WhiteAss, Divine Grace and myself. It's on Sirius radio's OutQ station and if you don't subscribe to Sirius, you can do a free trial at the link below. And it was a riot to pre-record. I'm not sure that Frank DeCaro knew what he was getting himself into with 4 loudmouth heifers all braying into the mic at once, all with strong opinions. I warned Frank him I wasn't too knowledgable about the awards, but he cheerily assured me "That's what we want!" As you know, I require no knowledge of any subject to spout off. So I denounced Zero Dark Thirty as propaganda currently under investigation and when asked about Angelina Jolie's leg outside her dress last year, I commented that focusing on "issues" like that is why faggots don't have any rights. Just a little sneak peak!
"Obama was promising a new era of transparency in government. He was adamant in promising that, if elected, his administration wouldn't do business in "the old way." He would be "responsive to people's needs."
Then came the reality.
After the election, and during Obama's term as president, people who had been working to label GMO food and warn the public of its huge dangers were shocked to the core. They saw Obama had been pulling a bait and switch.
The new president filled key posts with Monsanto people, in federal agencies that wield tremendous force in food issues, the USDA and the FDA:
"At the USDA, as the director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Roger Beachy, former director of the Monsanto Danforth Center.
As deputy commissioner of the FDA, the new food-safety-issues czar, the infamous Michael Taylor, former vice-president for public policy for Monsanto. Taylor had been instrumental in getting approval for Monsanto's genetically engineered bovine growth hormone.
As commissioner of the USDA, Iowa governor, Tom Vilsack. Vilsack had set up a national group, the Governors' Biotechnology Partnership, and had been given a Governor of the Year Award by the Biotechnology Industry Organization, whose members include Monsanto.
Obama was, all along, a stealth operative on behalf of Monsanto, biotech, GMOs, and corporate control of the future of agriculture.
From this perspective, Michelle Obama's campaign for home gardens and clean nutritious food suddenly looks like a diversion, a cover story floated to obscure what her husband has actually been doing.
Because this is an election season, people will say, "But what about Romney? Is he any better?" I see no indication that he is. The point, however, is that we are talking about a sitting president here, a president who presented himself, and was believed by many to be, an extraordinary departure from politics as usual.
Not only was that a wrong assessment, Obama was lying all along. He was, and he still is, Monsanto's man in Washington.
To those people who fight for GMO labeling, and against the decimation of the food supply and the destruction of human health, but still believe Obama is a beacon in bleak times:
So an NYC priest from St. Malachy's apparently has the juice to shut down a drag brunch in a Times Square restaurant. In response, the promoters moved the weekly brunch from next door from the church (on 49th Street) to another restaurant on 54th Street. I think it's a little scary that not only are priests spewing nonsense inside churches but that they also seem to have a say in what events go on where and when in the new gayest area in town Hellsea. Epiphany Get Paid is organizing a protest march this Sunday. If you're interesting in joining her, there are details on the event page linked. Who does this priest think he is? I'll be out of town but I'd love to be there to say "You have no power here" to this priest, especially since apparently, he does. EPIPHANY:
THEIR PRESS RELEASE: The Catholic Church (St. Malachy's Actors Chapel) of NYC has banned drag queens from performing in the Times Square neighborhood.
Through various illegal actions they have threatened closing venues and shutting down businesses who promote drag.
If that weren't enough the church says this on their website "Fortunately, the priests and leaders of St. Malachy's have all been men and women of their times, and so, adapted St. Malachy's to meet the needs of its new parishioners. Masses, confessions, missions were all rearranged to accommodate the rigors of theatre and nightclub schedules. And, finally, with the construction of the Actors' Chapel below the main church in 1920, St. Malachy's became famous as a haven of worship for the entertainment community…."
We are organizing a public display of solidarity. Peaceful, colorful, and fierce. Please invite your friends to march with us from Times Square NYC to St. Malachy's Actors Chapel.
If the pope can wear a dress why can't I
We will meet at the TKTS stairs in Times Sq at noon, and march to 49th between 8th and Broadway
Bring picket signs that are funny, not mean or ugly or offensive. This will be covered heavily by the press so lets keep it light. Facebook event page: FB
Lypsinka will be hosting a free screening of the Alfred Hitchcock film MARNIE at The New School on Friday, April 5, at 7pm. 66 West 12th Street between 6th and 5th Avenues (closer to 6th).
We'd better figure it out because it starts next Friday March 1st.
JUAN GONZÁLEZ: And in—specifically, I think you mentioned as many as 185,000 people would lose Section 8 housing subsidy certificates. What are some of the other immediate effects of if this goes into—this happens starting March 1 or March 15th or in the next few weeks?
IMARA JONES: I mean, it reads like a laundry list, and we could take up the rest of the time going through the list. But some of the critical areas are: 125,000 people will lose Section 8 housing, which is critical housing support for the working poor; 100,000 people who are homeless will not receive the support that they need without a place to go; there won’t be 450,000 AIDS tests; something like 500,000 vaccines won’t be manufactured; a million people won’t be able to access community health centers; unemployment insurance for four million long-term unemployed will be cut by 10 percent; in terms of education, 70,000 kids won’t have access to Head Start; another 30,000 in terms of child care assistance. And then, if the sequestration goes on, because, you know, it’s a rolling—sort of a rolling storm, if it goes on through the summer and into the fall, the programs that support up to 20 million of the nation’s poorest students will be cut and are in jeopardy.
As Rachel Maddow pointed out last night, one argument for the ultrasound probes for women seeking early term abortions was (paraphrasing) "Something's already been up there or the women wouldn't be in this position. So why should they mind the probe going up there?"
"Twelve states already have unnecessary ultrasound laws on the books, and over a dozen more are being considered in state houses across the country. But the theory that legislators are peddling — that such laws might change a woman’s mind — ignore the simple fact that 90 percent of women feel very confident about their decision to get an abortion before seeing a doctor. A transvaginal ultrasound may cause a woman discomfort and cost her more money, but it’s unlikely to change her constitutionally-protected decision to get an abortion."
I guess they "did" me on Drag Race's Santch Game last night. And then read me, even though I thought the queen did a very good job! All in fun. Ivy Winters looked fab as Victor/Victoria and I looooooooove Roxxxy Andrews' looks!
20-year-old Isabel Brooks and two of her friends locked themselves inside a segment of the Keystone XL pipeline -- a controversial pipeline being built to carry toxic tar sands oil to the US coast for export -- to protest its construction. While inside the pipe, they discovered something shocking: there are already holes in the Keystone XL pipeline, created by faulty welding.
But moments after snapping a photo of the light coming into the supposedly airtight pipe, Isabel was arrested and held for 24 days in prison. An hour after her arrest, TransCanada laid that segment of pipeline in the ground without inspecting it.
Sign our urgent petition to TransCanada to get independent inspection for every single inch of the Keystone XL pipeline to identify and fix any holes in the pipe.
Despite federal regulations making independent inspection mandatory, TransCanada pipeline contractors hire their own pipeline inspectors. Without truly independent oversight, TransCanada can cut corners and rubber stamp inspections. And when TransCanada cuts corners, our communities, farmland, water, health and planet suffer.
What’s really scary is that if Isabel found one segment of faulty pipeline, it’s likely there are others.
TransCanada has a legacy of pipeline spills. In the Keystone pipeline’s first year of operation, it spilled 12 times -- more than any other first-year pipeline in US history. This is a huge moment to show just how dangerous the KXL pipeline really is. With each day that passes, TransCanada is moving ahead with the construction of this pipeline, potentially burying more uninspected pipe, and putting more communities at risk.
If we speak out now we can make sure that TransCanada’s legacy of spills is stopped before it’s too late.
Sign our urgent petition to TransCanada now demanding independent pipeline inspection.
Check out Michael Musto's disco extravaganza this Sunday with Randy Jones, Tish and Eileen Snooky Bellomo and a live band. This Sunday at Below 54. Here's a little interview I did with him for Papermag.com:
You don't often hear me say that I don't like a Chaka Khan song. But this one wastes her magical voice on a cheesy pop/dance record. Save those for Nicky Minaj and Britney.
A manhunt is continuing in California for Christopher Dorner, the former Los Angeles police officer accused of shooting three people dead. In his online manifesto, Dorner threatened to wage "unconventional and asymmetrical warfare" against a police department he accused of racism and corruption. He was fired from the police department in 2008 after being accused of falsely claiming his training officer kicked a mentally ill suspect in the course of an arrest. On Friday, the LAPD announced it would reopen its investigation of Dorner’s firing and his claims. We’re joined by journalist and activist Davey D, who says, notwithstanding the allegations of murder, Dorner’s manifesto "has opened up old wounds or it’s reaffirmed what people have long suspected or have experienced in terms of [police] brutality. ... I’m really curious as to whether or not these allegations that he has raised, where he names dates, times and places and names, whether or not they actually check out. And I think that needs to be really investigated, above and beyond the immediate scenario which led to his firing."

US Dept of Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, plans to dump 14,000 tons of radioactive scrap metal into the marketplace for use in the manufacturing of consumer products, such as zippers, belt buckles, eyeglass frames, jewelry, watches, silverware, toys, pet bowls and leashes. This action is being fast-tracked, with little regard for public comment. The deadline is February 11, 2013.
Whenever you eat ground meat you don't know exactly what's in it. Ground beef or hot dogs, it's bones and beaks and everything else ground up in there. But consumers would like to imagine that whatever it is, it's from the same animal. And that animal is not a horse or cat. And there will be mistakes--but 60 percent of this lasagne is horsemeat? That's not like one horse fell into the grinder once. The horses wouldn't be at the plant unless we were eating them in many other ways, would they?

"These guys expected you not to give a shit. Drones are bad news, and they shock people, but after a while, if ugliness becomes the background hum of the everyday, eventually you'll tune it out. Like The Onion gag, they expect "outrage fatigue" to grind you down. They expected you to tune it out. Then they whacked an American, and you got mad! Hence the mock trial: See, they totally could have done this all along, which makes everything seem legal all along."
I enjoyed this segment on the Post Office, which focuses on how they'll stop delivering mail on Saturdays starting in August. Axing this one day will chop about 25,000 jobs, 40% of which go to minorities and many of which are held by women. But we want smaller government so let's chop anything the government does, regardless of it's value. Republicans have forced the Post Office to fund itself unlike any other gov't agency. So they now have to cut back. What's insane is that when the PO has tried to innovate by selling services which make european postal services profitable--like cell phone services. But Congress has blocked these efforts to innovate and then they claim that the agency isn't innovative or profitable.
The bottom line is that our representatives don't want to PO to be profitable because then it competes with UPS and Fed Ex which have bought our politicians with massive contributions. We assume that we're cutting postal services because people don't use snail mail as much. Of course, that's true, and in response, many PO locations have closed. But the PO isn't broke and wouldn't go broke except for the fact that republicans have forced it fund it's health benefits a decade in advance. And we all know that jobs with benefits are a bad thing, right? PITIFUL!
It's unbelievable that we are even debating this or that House republicans are blocking this bill. As if republican men don't mind violence against women! Protect every fetus at all costs, but never mind about the vessel which carries and nurtures it.
"Right now, the Senate is poised to pass the Violence Against Women Act with bipartisan support. But the overwhelmingly male House Republicans caucus, led by Eric Cantor and John Boehner, stand in the way of protecting victims of domestic violence. We need you to act now to ensure that the Senate bill is passed quickly by the Republican-controlled House.
Momentum is on our side. Last year, ten Republicans in the House broke rank with their party and joined Democrats in support of reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Eight of those Republicans remain in Congress. On the Senate side, Republican women Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and Kelly Ayotte are all co-sponsoring the bill. It's time to increase the public pressure on the 212 male Republicans in the House to get with their Republican women colleagues and pass the strong Senate version of the VAWA reauthorization bill.
Women's lives are at risk, and there is no more time for partisan delay.
Tell Republican men in the House: Stop blocking the Violence Against Women Act. Click here to automatically sign the petition.
The Senate version of the bill is expected to handily pass a floor vote this week with the help of new women Senators from both parties who were elected amidst a national backlash against Tea Party extremists like rape-apologists Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock.
VAWA is an incredibly popular and successful program that has reduced domestic violence rates by 58% since it was first passed in 1994. And it was approved in bipartisan votes every year since it was originally passed — until the radical takeover of the House by extremist, anti-women Republicans in 2010.
We know that we can't count on Republican men to vote in the interest of their constituents without enormous public pressure from us. House Republican men have voted for shameful bills to redefine rape, defund Planned Parenthood, and to let women die. Despite their appalling record on women's issues, there is hope that men in the Republican caucus in the House will join with their Republican women colleagues in the senate and show concern for domestic violence survivors."
Like the other self-manufactured crises, Congress is about to hit another deadline in March which "forces" them to whittle down social security, medicare, medicaid, etc. What it won't force them to discuss is the fact that we might not need to cut anything if many huge corporations were made to pay their fair share of taxes. And why won't they discuss it? Because no one in office, from the president on down, is able to get elected without campaign contributions from these huge corporations. So again, the poorest among us are asked to make sacrifices in a recession so that corporations can continue to make record profits.
YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD HATE THE USA? TORTURE ISN'T SOMETHING ONLY IN MOVIES LIKE ZERO DARK THIRTY.
Take a look at what the government did to Khaled El-Masri with your tax dollars: picked him up in Macedonia, flew him to Afghanistan to imprison him for 4 months where they tortured him for 4 months--including electric shock and sodomy. (So yes, we have people on staff who sodomize the wrongly imprisoned.) After the CIA realized they were looking for a terrorist suspect with a similar name and this wasn't him that guy, they then dumped him on the side of the road in Albania with nothing. Not an explanation, not a penny. This guy was a car salesman from Bavaria with no terrorist ties whatsoever. Albanian officials flew him home to Germany, but his wife had left him and he now suffers from mental breakdowns. He was awarded 60,000 euros by the UK government, but his life is ruined--in and out of jail after attacking the mayor, punching a guard, etc. Obama has refused to address the ACLU lawsuit which was dismissed due to "state secrets." Now Obama wants John Brennan to head the CIA and carry on with this madness. And they want to include US citizens in the people they can pick up, torture, detain indefinitely and kill us without a trial. We used to pride ourselves on not torturing like other countries we looked down on. Now Obama is desperate to appoint this torture czar John Brennan even though he wasn't approved the first time around. I hope you're proud of a country which uses your tax dollars to imprison and rape car salesmen. And wants to do it to US citizens.
When Obama took office, he and US Attorney General Eric Holder claimed that impeachment was "off the table." The Obama administration refused to prosecute Bush and Cheney for war crimes and even blocked an investigation from Spain into Bush and Cheney's clear criminal behavior. We now know the reason: Obama wants to commit war crimes of his own. What a marked change from the guy who campaigned on his transparency! The president tried to appoint Brennan to head the CIA in his first term but withdrew his nomination after civil rights activists cried foul. So why so little protest against the formerly controversial pick this time around?
NY TIMES:
"That's because, following Obama's lead, the country has decided to ignore the fact that it committed grievous crimes as part of the "War on Terror." Obama's Orwellian decree that we must "look forward, not backward" has convinced huge numbers of citizens to sweep this all under the rug and pretend it never happened. That is what explains how Brennan went from radioactive and unconfirmable in 2008 to uncontroversial in 2013."
Obama has increased drone strikes by 700% from George W. Bush's reign of error. And we wonder why people want to attack us.
Just thought you might like to see the face of someone Obama sent a drone to murder with your tax dollars. I feel so much safer with him dead, don't you? We not only target Al Qaeda, but even "military-age" kids who aren't affiliated with Al Qaeda or who we think might be likely to join at some point. Now Obama wants approval to use drones to kill US citizens in this way. Take away Obama's Nobel peace prize.
Largely thanks to a complicit corporate-state news media, the story of a U.S. teenager executed without trial by the government has largely gone under the radar.
The teen -- who we will temporarily refer to as "Adam" -- was born on August 26, 1995 at approximately 1:16 pm in Denver, Colorado. Like many Americans, Adam came to enjoy watching movies, playing football, computer games, and swimming.
Following the attacks of 9/11, the father of Adam -- also a U.S. citizen -- was invited to a luncheon at the Pentagon designed to encourage religious tolerance.
In late 2002, Adam and his father moved to Britain, and then Yemen in 2004.
In 2008, U.S. intelligence agencies made the claim that the father of Adam had been a "spiritual counselor" for some of the9/11 hijackers and had also assisted in various terror plots. The following year, Adam's father went into hiding, but this wouldn't deter his son from eventually setting off to try and find him.
Around 6:30 am on September 4th, 2011, Adam quietly slipped away from his family home in Sana, Yemen, leaving behind a note for his mother. "I am sorry for leaving in this kind of way," he wrote. "Forgive me. I miss my father and want to see if I can go and talk to him."
"If the government is going to be firing Predator missiles at American citizens, surely the American public has a right to know who's being targeted, and why."

And now the press is buzzing over if she's had a nose job. I admit that I did see something different at the Superbowl. But if she had one, it's very subtle and she just streamlined her existing nose rather than going for a whole new shape. Which I ain't mad at her for since I'd love to do that myself! But what's nutty is that they are speculating that she had the nose job in the short period between the inaugural and the Superbowl. There are often complications with surgery and 10 days is not giving much time to heal. She must have really wanted that new nose! Or maybe she had it before the inaugural and the swelling went down before the Superbowl. Whatever--I've never discussed the Superbowl this much in my gay life so the girl gets points for something--even if it isn't live singing!
OBAMA BREAKS BREAD WITH THE CHRISTIAN PSYCHOS WHO HELPED CREATE UGANDA'S KILL THE GAYS LEGISLATION. TIME TO STOP ACTING LIKE THIS GROUP IS KOSHER. THIS IS DISGUSTING. I KNOW EVERY PRESIDENT MEETS WITH THIS SCUM ANNUALLY, BUT OBAMA ISN'T UP FOR REELECTION, SO LET'S SEE SOME LEADERSHIP ON THIS NOW. EITHER YOU SUPPORT EQUALITY FOR GAYS OR YOU DON'T. AND THAT INCLUDES THE ONES IN UGANDA.
From Towleroad:
If the president is looking for ways to publicly demonstrate that he's a man of faith, he needs to find ways to do so without simultaneously putting the lives of LGBT people in jeopardy. The 'Kill the Gays' bill has been moving through the Ugandan Parliament at the very same time that President Obama was speaking to the group supporting it -- this practice has got to stop, and the president needs to understand the role he is playing in supporting the execution of LGBT people around the world.

“You have the top tastemakers in the world coming together under one roof, and at almost every party they’re listening to wedding music,” she said. “You guys are supposed to be cutting edge, but you’re listening to Madonna’s ‘Vogue’? Just like they want to expose the world to new ideas in design, fashion and art, why don’t they want to expose new ideas in music?”
CUOMO: IGNORING A "MASSIVE SHOW OF OPPOSITION" IN HIS DESPERATION TO POISON NY STATE'S WATER WITH FRACKING. PITIFUL! So greedy that he'd literally poison the people who elected him for a buck. The sad truth is that our elected officials no longer represent us. Bought and sold.
HUFFPO: "Despite this massive show of public opposition, Gov. Cuomo is still trying to figure out how to get away with fracking New York. Shockingly, an administration so famous for its sharp political acumen somehow thinks it can thread the needle and allow fracking without infuriating the progressive base it needs for its future. The administration has already floated numerous compromise plans, from declaring that certain urban watersheds will be off limits to drilling, to the "sacrifice zone" plan that would limit fracking to five Southern Tier counties. But notwithstanding this political maneuvering, common sense dictates that the devastating consequences of fracking won't confine themselves to county lines or underground watershed boundaries. The latest polls show that a majority of New Yorkers now see the obvious: that there is no such thing as safe fracking."
"It’s allegedly designed to help users find nearby friends by revealing those friends’ locations. But unlike Facebook’s current mobile app, which allows users to let others know where they are by “checking in” at a location, the new app would continuously follow the user once the program is activated."
The app would track user whereabouts in the “background” of Apple’s mobile operating system – even when the app isn’t open on the phone, one of the sources said. It remains unclear whether the app will run on other platforms.
I'm glad to see that Obama, democrats and even a few republicans are pushing for gun law reform, including background checks for gun purchases. What was the argument against background checks again? I'm sure there is one, but how do they actually say "I'd rather have a dozen more Sandy Hook shootings than have anyone evaluate the police records and/or mental health of the people seeking weapons?" I don't want to abolish people's right to own guns, but I also don't want to see people gunned down by people who shouldn't have them. Is the fear in who decides who should and who shouldn't own them? Assault weapons flew off the shelves during Obama's first term because it was rumored that he was coming to take people's guns away. In fact, he did nothing on gun reform in his first term, got a F from the Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Values and made it legal to carry guns onto Amtrak and into national public parks. So in their minds, is Obama waiting until his second term to bust out as the muslim, marxist, socialist, gun-banning Kenyan that some people seem to think is lurking there?
