It is very sad to have to sign a petition to "keep the democrats honest." It is very sad to have to encourage the democrats to split with a democratic president because they care about keeping American jobs. And they just want it discussed openly, not 'fast-tracked" with no debate, which is what Obama wants to do with the secret trade agreement called the TPP. If Obama isn't acting like a democrat, what the hell is he doing and who is he representing? The pressure is working, despite a virtual media black-out on this hush-hush trade deal. Please sign this and help spread the word, unless you don't want jobs to stay in this country.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership -- otherwise known as "NAFTA on steroids" -- was just dealt a huge blow. Late yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters in no uncertain terms that he opposes legislation that would "fast track" the treaty.
However, while Reid's firm stance diminishes the chances that the President will be given fast track authority by the Senate, it doesn't kill those chances completely. If Fast Track were to pass the House, Reid would be under overwhelming pressure from moderate Democrats -- especially those up for re-election this year -- to cave in and allow the bill to pass with mostly Republican votes.
Progressives need to keep Reid out of that dangerous position. And we can't do that without the vocal support of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Reid did his part. Now it's time for Rep. Pelosi to do hers. Tell Nancy Pelosi to put her foot down -- publicly oppose Fast Track and the TPP today.
Nancy Pelosi is with us on the issues that matter most 90% of the time. She voted against giving President Bush fast track authority in 2002, and she was a vocal opponent of other similar trade deals like CAFTA. She's said publicly that she has concerns about the TPP. Yet she continues to avoid taking the kind of bold stance against Fast Track and TPP that might make a difference in the legislation's chances.
Right now, we need leadership -- not lip service -- to stop the next NAFTA. Potential Democratic co-sponsors of Fast Track in the House are watching Pelosi closely. They don't want to go against party leaders publicly. But if they can claim ignorance of the Minority Leader's position, they might jump in and give this bill the bipartisan credibility it needs to become law.
We've had Nancy Pelosi's back in the past. American workers need her help today. Tell Leader Pelosi to take a bold, clear stand against Fast Track and the TPP now.
Thank you for keeping Democrats honest.

DISGRACEFUL!
This is how sad our "news" has become. If you want to read tabloids about Jennifer Anuston's changing hairstyles (which doesn't actually ever change) and Justin Bieber, whose legal shenanigans outshine any of his music, go right ahead and watch Entertainment Tonight. But if you'd rather see Bieber updates (as MSNBC assumes you would) than learn about the very troubling government intrusions into every one of our emails and phone calls, you're a moron. And MSNBC is supposed to be the more intelligent, liberal news that's the opposite of Fox. Until a bratty star that no one over the age of 16 cares about gets a DUI. If a democracy can only function with an informed electorate, then we're sunk. I'lll bet almost anyone in the country could tell you the details about Bieber, Terry Schiavo, Kate Middleton, Jodi Arias, Amanda Bynes and Charlie Sheen, who dominated the news for weeks. And I'll bet one out of 100 knows any of the details about the TPP, the secret trade agreement which Obama is trying to fast-track through Congress with no debate. Because if there is any debate, it will become clear that the TPP, described as NAFTA on steroids, will kill American jobs and wages, harm the environment, ensure that medications like AIDS drugs are not made generic in other countries, and actually strengthen the position of multi-national corporations to sue the US in private tribunals if those corporations profits are threatened by any law the US should pass. Maybe our news isn't mentioning the TPP much because it survives not only by covering lowest common denominator stories like Bieber's foibles, but also from ads paid for by the very companies who sat with Obama and wrote the TPP. Wrote it to screw the American people and kill jobs for decades to come. As you and your children sit in the poor house or a debtors prison wondering what happened, I hope you'll take comfort in recounting tales of some brat's DUI.

OBAMA IS INCOME EQUALITY
This coming Tuesday, President Obama will deliver his State of the Union address, and in early March, he will unveil his budget for the coming year. Early reports suggest that the State of the Union will focus on rising income inequality—but last year, the President’s budget included the Chained CPI. If enacted, this would have resulted in direct cuts to Social Security benefits at a time when people are relying on them more than ever.
Over 115,000 people signed our petition last week calling on the President to reject cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits in his budget and State of the Union address. But we need to keep the pressure on—Can you help?
We have created this web ad, which we plan to run throughout Washington, DC. The ad calls on President Obama to fight income inequality by introducing NO CUTS to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid in his State of the Union address or federal budget.
Together we defeated last year’s efforts by Wall Street CEOs, Republicans and some Democrats to cut our earned benefits. But they haven’t gone away!
We have a little more than a month to ensure that the President learned his lesson last year. Can you chip in whatever you can to help us get this ad up?
Please donate today to run this ad throughout our nation’s capitol and to tell the President where we stand. No cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid!
We must remind the President that Social Security is the most successful anti-inequality program in our country’s history and has never contributed a single penny to the deficit.
Help Social Security Works run this important ad by donating as generously as possible today!
Together, we are changing the conversation in Washington and strengthening the future of Social Security. Thank you for your continued support.

It’s business as usual for Monsanto: insist it’s doing nothing wrong, while opposing any request to be open about the risks of GMOs.
But this time, it’s Monsanto’s own shareholders who are asking questions. Their simple request is that Monsanto stops keeping them in the dark on genetically-modified food -- and they need our support.
After over 6,000 of us chipped in, SumOfUs organizers are headed to St Louis for the crucial shareholder vote -- working tirelessly to win the support of the big investment funds. But unless Monsanto and its shareholders feel the massive community opposition to their agenda, they’ll conclude they can ignore us and vote against GMO transparency. That’s why we need to act now.
The brave group of shareholders who will present this resolution at Monsanto’s annual meeting want the company to be straight with its shareholders. They’re asking Monsanto to report on the costs and business risks of GMOs -- from the contamination of non-GMO crops, to the effect on bees and other “non-target” organisms, and more. These are real risks and costs, and it’s a sensible proposal -- for anyone other than a corporation that thinks that suing family farmers and fighting truth-in-labelling laws is business as usual.
Monsanto is trying to defeat this shareholder vote -- using the same tactics it uses to defeat all opposition to its agenda. Its business model is based on keeping us all in the dark. It has fought against every effort to label genetically modified ingredients, spending $15 million to defeat laws in California and Washington alone. Monsanto can feel the tide turning against it -- already, numerous US states and countless countries have restrictions on GMOs and rules about their labelling. But instead of recognizing the community sentiment and business risk, Monsanto is still fighting. And now, its shareholders are starting to wake up to the risks.
That’s why it’s crucial that we support these shareholders who are taking a stand at Monsanto’s annual meeting, and demand that Monsanto study the risks and costs of GMOs and come clean to their shareholders and the public. Unless they know we’re watching, many of Monsanto’s biggest shareholders will feel free to support Monsanto’s management and vote against the shareholder resolution.

President Obama has finally recognized that Americans stand opposed to dragnet surveillance and the blatant abuse of power by the NSA.
But changing bits and pieces of the NSA's massive surveillance machine won't be enough to protect our privacy.
Right now, there is good, bipartisan legislation—the USA FREEDOM Act— pending in the House and Senate that would stop the worst of the NSA's domestic spying excesses.
And there’s also a competing bill that is about to come up for vote that would codify what the NSA is doing and allow them to continue spying on Americans for years to come.
Sign the petition and let's make sure our representatives in Congress hear us: We won't tolerate our own government spying on us any more.

BIEBER UPDATE!
SHOCKING ARREST PHOTO JUST LEAKED!
THE REAL NEWS STORY HERE!
Very interesting article how we treat immigrants who aren't famous vs those like Bieber who are.
If Justin Bieber Weren’t Famous
By ANDREW ROSENTHAL A foreign national living in the United States on a work visa is arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana, alcohol and prescription drugs, while drag racing in a residential area. Given the climate of hostility toward immigrants in many parts of the country, and the Obama administration’s love affair with deportation, you’d half expect him to be sitting in a holding cell awaiting a one-way trip out of the country.
At least you would expect that if he were poor, obscure and, say, Hispanic. But what if the malfeasant were wealthy, famous and, say, Justin Bieber?

Countdown: 21 days until Russia's Winter Olympics – and the anti-gay laws are still in place. But we've got a plan. President Putin wants the Olympics to be about showing Russia off to build political power and attract corporate dollars.
We can put that at risk, if we get the whole world talking about Russia's anti-gay laws instead. The outcry could be enough to get them to reconsider the laws.
First step: let's get all of athletes who're going to the Olympics to join in! Can you sign to show your support and encourage Team USA to join in?
http://www.allout.org/p6-usa
http://www.allout.org/p6-usa
Athletes making political statements or gestures at the Games could be punished under the Olympic rules. But we've got a clever way around that. We're only asking them to publicly show their support for one of the Olympic's very own rules – Principle 6, which says no discrimination is allowed.
Snowboarder Belle Brockhoff has signed up, and so has the entire Australian men's bobsled team! But we'll need more olympians from all over the world to publicly support Principle 6 and Russia's lesbian, gay, bi and trans people.
Sign to show skiers, skaters and sledders from Team USA how much their support matters:
http://www.allout.org/p6-usa
http://www.allout.org/p6-usa
Athletes are in a unique position to make a difference right now – they could talk about Principle 6 at press conferences and interviews, and wear Principle 6 t-shirts when rules allow, to broadcast our message around the world.
President Putin has recently shown he's worried that global outrage about anti-gay laws and human rights abuses could ruin his Olympics. He changed his mind about banning protests at the Olympics site, and he released high profile political prisoners including Pussy Riot.

http://www.allout.org/p6-usa
We'll be talking a lot about Russia's anti-gay laws over the next few weeks but of course All Out is about every country where there are anti-gay laws. The office team is regularly on the phone with activists in Uganda, Nigeria, India, Cameroon and around the world, looking for ways 1.9 million of us can help when the time is right.
First Olympic athletes, then we'll get sponsors like Coke to join in too:

Remember how good it felt when we avoided attacking with Syria, choosing diplomacy instead? When Congress members went home to their districts, their constituents told them clearly WE DON'T WANT WAR. They got the message. Now Congress members, including democrats like NY's Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and NJ's Robert Senator Menendez and Corey Cory Booker are pushing for new sanctions on Iran, which could easily lead to war. Despite the fact that Iran's new government is willing to cooperate and that Obama has successfully been negotiating with them. Why are democrats the hawks now? And why are they sabotaging Obama's diplomatic efforts? This will (or ought to) stop Obama from acting like a moderate republican much of the time. And it ought to show how little difference there is between the two major parties. Time for a new party that accurately represents the people of this country and the people all over the world: WE DON'T WANT WAR. How are we trying to build hostilities and lay the framework for more war when this country is falling apart?. NY and NJ--let your senators know! We did this before and can do it again.

Wolf Moon Gathering, an afternoon of performance
The aftermath of industrialization is taking its toll on the dismembered female image. On the occasion of the launch of their publication's second issue with Capricious, Girls Against God Co-editors, Bianca Casady and Anne Sherwood Pundyk, gather the forces to harken back to early civilizations where women and men lived as equals and worshipped a Great Goddess. Often these Goddesses were depicted holding snakes and had serpentine features; the snakes did not represent evil as they do in The Scriptures, but were energy lines signifying the flow of life. They were symbols of rebirth, painted on women's bellies to signify pregnancy. Rather than the modern "curse" it is today, women's flow was sacred and considered the same as other "flows" such as the rain.
With performances from artists Vaginal Davis, Future Feminist Johanna Constantine and others, come together for participatory rituals using voice, rhythm, and objects of personal significance to cast healing spells under the waning Wolf Moon.

FAUXBAMA STRIKES AGAIN
Obama's proposed secret trade agreement effect on the environment will be, according the Sierra Club which was recently spurred into it's first civil disobedience in the group's long history, "worse than George W. Bush's." on the environment. But wasn't climate change one of the president's big 3 issues for his second term? I guess that would make him dishonest. And worse than Bush. As he is on spying on us, drones, enforcing drugs, acting on behalf of Monsanto, you name it! Can someone show us the plus side of the Trans Pacific Partnership? We know it'll kill jobs, now this?
HUFFPO: The leaked document from November is only a draft, but if the trade pact's final environmental chapter looks like it, it would make the Obama administration's environmental trade record "worse than George W. Bush’s," said Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club. “This draft chapter falls flat on every single one of our issues -- oceans, fish, wildlife, and forest protections -- and in fact, rolls back on the progress made in past free trade pacts.”

GRRRRRRR!!
Why is Obama pretending to fight income inequality and acting concerned about unemployment insurance while he's simultaneously trying to ram through a secret trade agreement which would kill jobs and wages in the US for years to come? He's the bad guy here. The news is barely reporting on this, yet 200 Congressmen have signed a letter urging Obama to allow discussion of the TPP, which was written by the very lobbyists which campaign mode Obama wanted to banish from Washington. Yeah, that would be the president who also got our votes offering greater government transparency than the Bush administration--the one who is now dealing in far-reaching secret trade agreements, an expanded NSA spying on all of us like never before and secret drone wars. The truth is that this agreement cannot be seen without anyone who has a brain being outraged.
Unless you think you can compete with the minimum wage of 25 cents in Vietnam, one of the countries involved in this agreement, you might want to sign this petition urging lawmakers to give this putrid agreement some disinfecting sunlight. If you aren't concerned with this, you really aren't concerned with the future of this country.
DEMOCRACY FOR AMERICA: "At this moment, the United States and 11 other countries are, with the help of over 600 corporate "advisors," secretly negotiating a massive, controversial trade deal called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (or TPP). If passed, the TPP, which is often called "NAFTA on Steroids," would be the largest "free trade" agreement ever made.
Let me be as clear as I can: The TPP will be an unmitigated disaster for working families.
Under the TPP, it will become even easier to offshore both public and private sector American jobs, food safety standards will be weakened, drug prices will rise, and the rights and powers of the same Wall Street firms who wrecked our economy will be expanded. And that's before we even start talking about the erosion of wages, benefits and union rights we've seen happen with big trade agreements before.
The good news? Right now, we have a unique opportunity to stop the TPP by preventing the passage of so-called "fast-track trade authority," which would allow the President to ram the trade agreement through Congress without any amendments or a robust public discussion.
Tell Congress: Say NO to fast-track trade authority and make sure trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership work for everyone. Click here to take action NOW.
By giving the President "fast track trade authority," Congress gives up its special authority to make certain that our trade policy works for everyone, not just the powerful corporations and business interests with a seat at the negotiating table.
Even worse, TPP negotiations have been shrouded in secrecy, with the little we do know about the deal coming from just a handful of leaked chapters of the agreement. As a result, if Congress approves "fast track authority" for the TPP, it will be giving away its constitutionally-protected role in trade negotiations without even knowing what's in the final deal -- no amendments, no robust debate, and little chance for the public to weigh in.
Granting "fast track authority" for the TPP would give all that up -- give up our chance to make sure that our voice is heard in Washington -- for a massive "free trade" deal that we already know is bad for working families.
But, if we act quickly, we can stop "fast track" and end the TPP before it even starts.

Congress needs to hear from you: Click here to sign DFA's petition telling Congress to say NO to fast-track trade authority. "

WEIGHING IN ON CRUST CRUSTIE
I guess it's time for me to weigh in on the Chris Christie scandal since everyone else has. It is juicy, and I can't believe the hours I've spent watching the updates. You’ve got to hand it to Dyke Maddow for breaking the story in the national media. Still, it’s absurd that on Thursday and Friday she covered no other news stories, devoting her entire hour’s broadcast to it. Seriously, were there no other news stories significant enough to cover over two days? Did MSNBC not think that anyone wanted to learn about the coal-extracting chemicals which polluted the drinking water in Charleston, West Virginia and the seven surrounding counties? Or the Obama administration's response to the recommendations of the committee which was formed to curtail the federal government’s NSA’s spying abuses? Or the threat to recently married same sex couples in Utah whose matrimony may now be in legal limbo? The issue for which Chris Christie is under fire happened for several days 6 months ago and concerns one bridge linking New York and New Jersey. Okay, it it is the busiest bridge in the land. But the real reason that this story’s given so much prominence is that it could discredit a likely GOP presidential candidate and MSNBC is the liberal station. (So they spend all their time bashing Republicans and never focusing on Democrats’ many shortcomings.) Regardless of how brilliant Rhodes scholar Rachel Maddow is, MSNBC's coverage is blowing this out of proportion just like it's rival station Fox News does Benghazi. MSNBC is now advancing a "Rachel Maddow theory,” which suggests that the New Jersey Gov. was retaliating not against Fort Lee mayor, but rather against the Democratic leader of the New Jersey Senate for helping to squash one of Christie's judicial nominees. Not a bad theory, but I can't believe some of the schlock masquerading as news that I've heard from other MSNBC broadcasters. For example: Bridget Ann Kelly is the Christie deputy executive who’s now been fired for sending the e-mail directing David Wildstein to initiate the traffic snarl.s Chris Matthews actually mentioned his own Irish heritage as a reason that he couldn't wait to hear Bridget's testimony, as if he had a hard time believing that there was such thing an Irish crook. Malarkey, my good fool!
Matthews went on to declare his love for Africa and threw the segment to his wife (???) who mentioned that tourism is an essential part of these dirt-poor countries. And by the way, they just happened to let it slip that she worked for the Marriott hotel chain. And while on the subject of newscasters saying inappropriate things, is anyone else sick of them making sports references? I have absolutely no idea what you're referring to ever. Besides, Anderson Cooper is gay news anchor but you don't see him quoting lines from Mommie Dearest or voguing on the air. You may see him doing that in bathhouses, but not on the national news.
I'm no fan of any Republican, much less Chris Christie. But we do have to remember one thing: this scandal may not hurt his chances in a presidential run too awfully much. Democrats already despise him. But republican voters may not care that much that a bullying governor puts the hammer down on a progressive democratic district in his state. Not that many GOP political figures sprung to Christie's defense, although Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said that he didn't think bullying would play well amongst Southern voters. I'm not sure if Graham is referencing fine Southern manners or if he's just more sensitive since he is clearly transitioning into a woman in order to marry John McCain.
After his initial criticism, Lindsey did tweet that he felt Christie has held his own during the two hour press conference. I rarely agree with Miss Graham, but on the surface, it was a compelling performance in that press room. I also agree with the MSNBC anchor who noted that if you weren't familiar with the details of the case, your likely impression of Christie would be favorable. He did SEEM both ashamed and apologetic. But if you dig just a little deeper, you’d be forced to conclude that Christie’s explanation that he fired the employees linked to this without even questioning them was absurd. If your own employees had mapped out a scheme this hateful, wouldn't you at least want to ask them "“Who were you taking orders from?”The only reason he wouldn't need to ask about their motives is that he knew exactly who they were taking orders from–from him!
I do hope they link the governor directly to this monkey business. The reason? I'm scared of him. Even though his policies didn’t poll well in NJ, Christie himself did. People like a politician who is direct. Or even one who seems direct. It’s the quality of a leader. Let's not forget that voters are often voting against something when voting for something. Clinton was a somewhat socially progressive, likable guy who ushered in a huge budget surplus despite having loose morals. In contrast, George W. Bush was a fundamentalist conservative whose “Don't mess with Texas" attitude appealed to rednecks. By the time the 2016 elections roll around, We will have had eight years of Obama, who could be described as a liberal, diplomatic, professorial, sometimes wishy-washy, elite statesman promising change that he didn't deliver most of. So the electorate may be in the mood for a straight talking, efficient, compelling man of action who gets the job done—even if that involves a few underhanded tactics. A man like Chris Christie. Frankly, I was amazed at how well the New Jersey Gov. handled himself in that press conference. He was doing damage control yet he almost seemed to be turning his hot seat into a spotlight to showcase his abilities. Many voters don't mind a bully, whose bull-headed positions may reflect their own insensitive view of politics. I grew up in Tennessee and while I had no interest in politics then, I couldn't help but notice the many times I’d hear “Kill ‘em all and sort ‘em out later” as a foreign policy mantra against Iran or anyone else who messed with us. I guess I just assumed that some of us had evolved by the time of the Iraq war, so I was rather shocked to see a bumper sticker in suburban Philadelphia circa 2005 proclaiming “Nuke their ass and take their gas!” Americans like to imagine that they’re Christian, but there are some evil mofo’s out there. Think about it. We absolutely love mafia-based entertainment in which illegal, below the belt tactics are the bulk of the plot. And who loves The Sopranos, The Godfather and any other film starring Al Pacino the most? Straight guys. For some reason, straight, working class white guys were the biggest voting block decides Republicans that Obama inexplicably never appealed to, even the policies he campaigned on would have helped their more than any Republican candidates would. So to conclude with a loathsome sports analogy, Christie maybe down for the count, but authorities will need to unearth A lot more evidence tying him directly to this scandal before you can count him out in 2016.

Too bad--he's actually quite handsome. But what this has to do with Charlie Chaplin is a secret locked away somewhere in a glass pipe.
NATASHA LEGGERO ON FIRE!
Good for her! I'm sick of empty apologies and her defense of her very tame joke, which she got death threats for??!!) is dead on:
Natasha Leggero: Do we really believe that the people who fought and defended our freedom against Nazis and the Axis powers will find a joke about SpaghettiOs too much to bear? Sorry, I have more respect for Veterans than to think their honor can be impugned by a glamorous, charming comedian in a fur hat,” she said, describing her New Year’s outfit.
“On the one hand you have me, making a joke about how old people can’t chew tough foods very well,” she said. “On the other hand you have Veterans who receive inadequate care upon their return from active duty, rampant sexual assault against female soldiers, staggering rates of suicide, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, substance abuse and depression among soldiers and political gridlock that prevents these problems from getting solved quickly.”
I wouldn't mess with this gal!

JUST A QUESTION...
Blu Cantrell was a great singer, very pretty and as this video proves, has tons of personality. I'm not sure why she didn't score other hits though I believe she was more successful in Europe. But my real question is WHAT HAPPENED TO R&B? This is a genre of music I've enjoyed all my life yet it seems to have disappeared or really taken a back burner to it's former prominence. There's Beyonce, who is sort of r&b. Other artists like Rihanna and Usher used to make slower tempo tunes (Umbrella, U Remind Me) but then jumped on the cheesy dance music bandwagon. Justin Timberlake will have an occasional hit and there's one-offs like Cee-Lo's F#ck You, Get Lucky and Blurred lines. But does it strike anyone as odd that soulful singers like Mary J., Amerie, Ciara, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Angie Stone, Musiq Soulchild, Maxwell, Faith Evans, Maya, Fantasia, Brandy, Monica, Janet Jackson, Sunshine Anderson, R. Kelly, Mariah, Jennifer Hudson, Zhane, Janet Jackson and Ashanti have just disappeared? OK, I don't actually miss Ashanti. But is the music industry in such dire straights that they just promote only the most formulaic stuff? Blu's hit featured a retro jazzy horn sound, an r&b tempo, slamming vocals, humor and tons of attitude--it had a unique, unforgettable sound. When I play stuff like this people love it. Wouldn't that indicate to the industry that there's a demand for it? I'm not too knowledgable about internet radio, but can someone please direct me to a site that plays new r&b? I look around iTunes and find good music from Ledisi, Raheem DeVaughn, Jaheim, etc, but these artists don't seem to get much of a push despite making great sounds. How does an entire genre just vanish? And why haven't we heard anything new from Whitney?
