LOST CHURCHES IN NOLA

SOMEONE TELL ME THIS ISN'T TRUE:

Churches in New Orleans

One of the local television stations in South Louisiana actually aired
an interview with a black woman from New Orleans. The interviewer
was a woman from a Boston affiliate. She asked the black woman how
such total and complete devastation of the churches in the area had affected their lives.
Without hesitation, the woman replied," I don't know about all those
other people, but we haven't gone to Churches in years. We gets our
chicken from Popeye's."

The look on the interviewer's face was priceless.

UNFORUNATELY THIS ONE IS TRUE: JUST 22 FAMILIES IN NEW OLEANS HAVE OBTAINED THEIR HOME GRANTS!

THIS ONE, I'M NOT SURE:

FROM THE TIMES-PICAYUNE:

Man dismembers girlfriend in Quarter; cooks body parts

A suicide note in the pocket of a man who jumped off the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel late Tuesday led police to the grisly scene of his girlfriend’s murder, where they found her charred head in a pot on the stove, her legs and feet baked in the oven and the rest of her dismembered body in trash bag in the refrigerator, according to police and the couple’s landlord.

Unfortunately that last story is very true... my very good friend evacuated from NO to Lake Charles to evacuate from Rita to here in Lafayette- her friend called her a few weeks ago to tell her the story because they were all mutual friends. It was all over the news here in Lafayette, La.
The devistation in people is horrible.. this story being the perfect example. Drug and alcohol abuse is on the rise as well as depression in people who never had that problem before.
My friends and I are all artists and feel healing comes from art so we put a show together... wanting to bring it to NY in August for the Fringe Festival. We know that this story is bigger than all of us and we feel people need to be reminded about it. N.O. has been back-burnered. And why isn't America more upset about the third treatment and image in their own country?
I'm sorry to go off-- Katrina has been really fresh and I am very thankful that you are still keeping in touch with it..checking in.. and reminding some people out there how bad it still is. Thank you.

Go off, honey! Sorry if I focused on the outlandish, comic side of the story, but I didn't think I'd encounter anyone who knew the poor girl or that it was symptomatic of a growth in alcoholism. I thought everyone there was already an alch-y. Or maybe those were just the tourists.

Anyhoo, good luck this hurricane season. --LB

I'm working on my road Home application now. Nice to know I'll have plenty of time to find a builder before the money comes in.
