To deny them sexual pleasure. It usually diesn't happen in the US, but Georgia has just tried it's first case against the illegal mutilation performed by an Ethiopan immigrant father on his daughter.
"LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia (AP) -- An Ethiopian immigrant was convicted Wednesday of the genital mutilation of his 2-year-old daughter and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in what was believed to be the first such criminal case in the United States.
Khalid Adem, 30, was found guilty of aggravated battery and cruelty to children. Prosecutors said he used scissors to remove his daughter's clitoris in his family's Atlanta-area apartment in 2001. The child's mother, Fortunate Adem, said she did not discover it until more than a year later.
Adem, who had no criminal record, could have been sentenced to up to 40 years in prison. He held his face in his hands and wept loudly after the jury's verdict was read.
During her father's trial, the girl, now 7, clutched a teddy bear as she testified on videotape that her father "cut me on my private part."

I think I'm gonna have to go ahead and say that when people come to our live in our country, they must abide by our laws. Period. (Even if they're made by idiots at the present time.) I may not go so far as to say they're all savages, but if we stole something from a shop in certain other countries, we'd get our hand cut off. Or be executed.
Sometimes, moving to a new country means putting away your scissors. (And why is it that these "customs" that are supposed to make women more "beautiful" always involve large amounts of pain?)
Antonio, you're right about male circumcision being mutilation, too. And it supposedly does remove some of the sensation, though not the ability to orgasm. And it isn't practiced with sharp stones or other unsterilized objects, to my knowledge.

Do you really think that a caring father would subjec this daughter to a home operation from which many have died? Even in Africa, the procedure is carried out by some woman in a village--octors can't perform it as it 's illegal.
Unfortunately, even in this country, there is a notion that women who enjoy sex (other than for procreation) are slutty. That's why so many sexually active/married uncircumcized women in this country have never had an orgasm. That's why Hasidic jews force their wives to shave their heads and wear wigs--and if I'm not mistaken, get fucked through a hole in the sheet which covers both partners. And the burqas and other head wraps in the Middle East--don't these exist to de-sexualize women? To me, all this is a way of keeping women down. Ask any girl if they want an operation which will reduce her chances of having an orgasm or that she may die from and I doubt that she'll go for it. Sometimes performed on girls as early as 9, even if they were asked, before the girls had passed puberty, they won't know what an orgasm feels like. So sure, maybe they'd agree to it to make their pussy prettier or to up their bridal ante, but a tradition which robs them of an ability to orgasm is a shocker to me. --B
I remember my Clitoral Removal. It wasn't elective, in my case. The nuns made me do it in the 7th grade, so i'd stop masturbating in Social Studies class when they would show pictures from national geographic.
My surgery went really well actually. I don't have feeling down there, today. But, they gave me Ketamine as the anesthesia. So, the surgical experience itself was quite dreamy.

The father was only doing a cultural practice that is very common throughout the world. Yeah, it sucks, but its a tribal practice like male circumcision.
I think the main problem is, is that it is done so late in life. If you are going to "consecrate" your child through circumcision it has to be under the care of both parents when the child is in infancy.
Circumcision should probably be outlawed, though, because of high instances of penis ablation and unwanton disengenderment in both sexes.
In this particular case I would say both the parents should pay heavy fines and be investigated by CPS and laws need to be made to oversee traditional child circumcision in a safer and more professional environment, if it is to be allowed at all.
There are a lot of old traditions that need to be phased out, by legislation if necessary. Female circumcision especially is definitely at the top of the list.
By the way, I think the comment about taking the savage out of Africa is just so very pretty. I wonder if it will be true for my own new child.

I am an uncircumcised male, so it's not like I have an ax to grind. But I get deeply disgusted by the fact that female circumcision (or genital mutilation, if you prefer) is viewed completely differently by our society/lawmakers than male circumcision. Who the fuck gave ANY parent the right to decide which healthy bits of ANY child they can amputate? I am even more disgusted by medical practitioners acting like pofiteers while they violate oaths and ethics. A pox on anyone that would do any of this to any child, for any misguided reason, and an especially cruel and heinous pox for those that would do so in the name of their god.
