GLOBAL ALARMING

FROM THE NY TIMES:

The top climate scientist at NASA says the Bush administration has tried to stop him from speaking out since he gave a lecture last month calling for prompt reductions in emissions of greenhouse gases linked to global warming.

An excerpt from WASHINGTONPOST :

Now that most scientists agree human activity is causing Earth to warm, the central debate has shifted to whether climate change is progressing so rapidly that, within decades, humans may be helpless to slow or reverse the trend.

This "tipping point" scenario has begun to consume many prominent researchers in the United States and abroad, because the answer could determine how drastically countries need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years. While scientists remain uncertain when such a point might occur, many say it is urgent that policymakers cut global carbon dioxide emissions in half over the next 50 years or risk the triggering of changes that would be irreversible.

This one I do believe, He did the same thing when Christine Todd Whitman was head of the EPA - The Bush Admin. read the report she spent time doing and it was so negative and drastic - an outcome that things were so bad now that there was hardly anything to stop what lies ahead. They had it suppressed and put Whitman (a repub) in a room and told her to keep her mouth shut about it - she soon left the job.

I haven't read State of Fear. But even if it's the greatest book ever, the research that you've done on the footnotes found in it can hardly discredit the research of scientists around the world and the more the many nations who drafted the Kyoto treaty to try and stop this "theory". Bush immediately rejected the Kyoto treaty in his first term and now he's suppressing evidence of it's harmfulness? Just so that the big businesses which which bought him into office can save $ by not having to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, at the expense of the fucking planet Earth? That's the one I'm on--where are you coming from? And hey, even if it global warming is an unproven theory, better safe than sorry, right? --B

Michael Crichton? I really don't think anyone should take his work too seriously. Hollywood movies, entertainment books, he might be a doctor, but he's a major sellout to the system. He's not Arthur C Clark, or Carl Sagan, more like Stephen King.
