AT THE THEATER!

Just saw Forever Dusty. The lead did resemble and sound like Miss Springfield, but the plot was so flimsy that the audience was giggling at the "set" changes (via projections) by the end. In their defense, the troubled pop star endured career highs and lows, closet lesbianism, drug and alcohol abuse, cutting herself and an early death--so this couldn't be a feel-good musical. But there was no defense for the silly dialogue, feeble attempts at humor and the sometimes poor lighting. But if you just want to go to see someone sound like Dusty Springfield singing her hits in a fairly mindless way and fun costumes with hints of her tragic life, this is the show for you. And the actress who plays Dusty's girlfriend steals the show with her electrifying version of The Exciters' Tell Him.
