Right now, behind the scenes, a special task force appointed by Nancy Pelosi is negotiating which campaign finance reform proposal House Democratic leaders will put their full weight behind. Two bills under consideration would create the right incentive system -- rewarding congressional candidates who court regular people and only raise donations up to $100 or $150. Grassroots donations would be matched approximately 5 to 1 with public funds, plus these candidates would receive some additional public money. A far weaker bill under consideratoin would give a taxpayer subsidy to big-money donors! We told Pelosi we cannot support that.
