For almost a year, the Related Companies have reportedly been in negotiations with Walmart to lease the retailer space in East New York, Brooklyn to build its first of potentially more than a hundred stores in NYC. For almost a year, New Yorkers have tried to tell Related they don’t want Walmart to destroy existing small businesses and their neighborhoods. Recently, East New Yorkers passed a resolution demanding that Related come to their local Community Board to give a presentation on what it plans to build in their neighborhood. Related agreed to come, but when community members showed up at the meeting, they found a note that stated, “Related called and informed the board that they would not be present tonight due to sickness.”

Here’s a video of East New Yorkers expressing how they felt about that.
