THE DISCO DIVA HAS HEADED TO THAT GREAT BIG DANCE FLOOR IN THE SKY. THOUGH SHE LONGED TO SING THE SONGS SHE WROTE, HER BIGGEST SUCCESSES WERE COVERS OF IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND, STORMY WEATHER, AND GONNA GET AONG WITHOUT YOU NOW, ESPECIALLY POPULAR IN THE GAY CLUBS.

I spent an evening with Ms. Wills back in the seventies. She was appearing at Limelight (Atlanta), where I worked at the time. We (Ms. Wills, her manager and myself) went to Backstreet. She was kind and very open about herself. Already a grandmother in the late 1970s, she'd moved to London but had been born and raised in Watts, the infamous slum of L.A. Until she herself hit with her disco remakes, she'd been a backup singer for many years. RIP Ms. Wills
