THE LAST TIME THE DRAG queen known as Lady Bunny returned to Atlanta to perform, she felt like a crackhead — and not in a good way.
Lady Bunny first moved from Chattanooga, Tenn., to Atlanta in the early 1980s, arriving to what she describes as “a really vibrant atmosphere — just crazy, just the gayest thing ever.”
“All of the gays lived in Midtown, and there was a lot of flavor there,” says Lady Bunny, who now lives in New York. “I’m sure that there are plenty of different spots that have flavor in them [today], but to have such a concentration of it — I mean, it was outrageous, it was completely outrageous.”
