when I was in art school in the early 1990s a few of us were really interested in portraying Jesus in our art work. one artist did b/w photographs of a 1990s Memphis drag legend Vanna Black as a coquettish androgynous black Jesus and my sketchbooks were filled with Jesus illustrations where Jesus was a depicted wearing heels or nancing around smoking cigarettes.
