I'd never heard of this psychedlic-pop trio until someone sent me a link of this insane performance from The Smothers Brothers. The two girls on one side are really groovin' but the Penelope Tree look-a-like on the left stands totally still throughout the nuber as if she's petrified from a bad acid trip. Or several.
I also found their cover of MOCKINGBIRD, which James Taylor popularized later on. Miss Penelope still isn't moving, but at least they stuck her in the middle so it looks a little more natural. And the other two are essentially moonwalking--until their feet were shown I thought the stage was revolving.

I can sympathise with the woman in green, weed use to effect me in the same way, while others would be having a great time, dancing laughing etc. I'd be stood like a statue in a paranoid stupor. T'was a nightmare!
That's not moonwalking, Bunny. It was called the Skate. Kind of a James Brown slither crossed with the Boogaloo. Very cool to see (extremely) white girls dancing that way.

And Mitzi, I once "took pot" (as my mom calls it) before performing, and thank god I was wearing a long dress, beause I was overwhelmed with paranoia an my leg started shaking uncontrollably. Well, and then again, this occurred 20 years ago at the Pyramid, when it's conceivable that I might have been trying out a new number! --LB

I've had their album CAKE for like 25 years and I have never heard anything about them or saw any footage of them,I alawys thought they were a one off local group when I found their record in the salvation army many years ago....they look Amazing in concert on television,their dancing thier makeup, their hair,voices,arangements and choice of songs!! on the cover of their album it's just a close up of their faces,contrasty/black and white...thanks for posting those HOT videos!!
