"SMASHING" SUCCESS IN CHICAGO

I was hired for Chicago's Market Days to perform and dj a little, opening up for Lady Kier. Georgie Porgie went on before us with a live band which usually doesn't work with a dance act. But Georgie's such an energetic performer that he made everyone sing along by the end to his hit LOVE IS GONNA SAVE THE DAY.

My boss was a group which spreads info about crystal meth amongst the Latino gay community in Chicago. (Meth was on the cover of Newsweek last week!) I was to perform a short set, and then unveil an 10 foot glass rectangle with a photo of 2 men kissing in it. When 3 guys walked out with mallets to smash the statue, I was to play the sound of breaking glass. I'm not sure that the audience understood what was happening--a couple of people booed as if "You've bashed Bunny's statue!"--but then banners unfurled which explained the statue's signifigance and it ended up being thought-provoking.

Kier then began her dj set singing one of her new tracks and looking adorable. But get this: someone stole her wig on the way to Chicago and stole mine on the way to LA. Wig thieves? Give me a fucking break!
