R.I.P. JEAN STAPLETON

She was the rare superstar who could make you howl with laughter and break down in tears with her lovably ditzy Edith Bunker character on All In The Family. In one half hour. It's called a good script and talented actors, folks. And you won't see it much on TV today. For me, Edith really symbolized the national sinking in of women's lib. A traditional women under the thumb of her bigoted husband, Edith occasionally found the strength to stand up to Archie. And the nation tearfully rejoiced. Or I did, anyway.
