DISCO SUNDAY AT SPLASH BAR TONIGHT!

I'm spinning disco/80s classics at Splash tonight from 7-11. Started just 3 weeks ago, this night has been gaining both in attendance and that magical disco fairy dust factor! It's very casual and there's no cover until 8PM after which they charge $5. 2-4-1 drinks until 9PM makes it affordable and smokin' hot dancers add a little eye candy and youthful vigor--they are VERY friendly when you tip them. Yet the night's so casual that there is no need to even dress up unless you want to and it's largely over by 11PM. Last week I was interviewed by the dutch version of MTV on the lasting appeal of disco. It's outrageous to see the effects of quality music when played on a big sound system. These guys and girls are singing along to every chorus and even every ad lib of Donna Summer, Diana Ross, France Jolie, Jackie Moore, Evelyn "Champagne" King, The Emotions, Rick James, Teena Marie, The Ritchie Family, The Andrea True Connection, Earth, Wind and Fire, Karen Young, Shades Of Love, Melba Moore and Cheryl Lynn. This music means something and it's crafted with love--not cookie cutter bullshit. Let's see if anyone if singing along to Beyonce's crap Bow Down Bitches in 1 year, let alone 30 years after it's release! It's fun to size up the different types of disco-lovers and make sure that everyone is represented from the Saint crowd (Viola Wills, Miquel Brown) the underground disco heads (First Choice, Loleatta Holloway) the hustle crowd who likes a slower jam (If I Can't Have You, Rock The Boat, Fly, Robin, Fly) and more mainstream so-gay-it-hurts crowd (Born To Be Alive, Gloria, Lime, It's Raining Men, Macho Man). Gorgeous weather tonight so Get Up And Boogie Oogie Oogie! Very fun new night!
