"When an arts venue closes its doors, everyone suffers: artists, spectators and students are displaced; restaurants and other nearby small businesses lose foot traffic; realtors have one less cultural hotspot with which to attract buyers and tenants; schools lose an educational partner and a source of internships, and the city loses a tourist draw. Arts venues and their audiences play a significant role in our city’s nightlife, tourism and real-estate industries. It’s ironic that the rising rents and property values that threaten many arts organizations are partly a result of the buzz and excitement those arts venues generate."
