SADE PENDARVIS: THE QUEEN OF GAY SOUL

Sade Pendavis, who first found her first fame in the 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning, turning out Patti Labelle's iconic "Over The Rainbow," passed away March 14 from complications of a previous liver transplant. For years The Queen of Gay Soul warmed hearts singing with Joey Arias, Raven O and Sherry Vine at Bar d'O as well as celebrated appearances at Wigstock, in Europe with Susanne Bartsch in the early '90s and more recently with Joey Arias at Town Hall. Although her deteriorating health in the final years made performing difficult, she continued to dazzle audiences until very recently. We asked her friends to reflect on her talent and her legacy.
