JONAH MOWRY

You may have seen this video by now--very disturbed teen who seems to have pulled through. Still very rough to watch. I'm glad he got the support he needed for now, but I noticed several other videos by troubled youth who hold up these cards--as in a straight youth who attempted suicide on drugs. I guess these card videos are a trend I wasn't aware of. If they get the kids the help they need, fantastic. But doesn't the very format of a kid silenced by shame to the point where they can only write on cards to shove in front of a camera to describe their isolation seem very tragic in itself? I mean, if doing this gets them the comments of support they need then I'm just reading to much into this. But it seems really empty to me. (As I post something asking for your response.) If you are looking for support from strangers on the internet, what if the brats who bullied you are tracking you and post "DO IT! EVERYONE HATES YOU!" comments. Seems like a real danger zone and I wish they had somewhere else less virtual to turn to.
