10/5 A PLACE A THE TABLE
It's called A Place at the Table, and it's a big fundraiser for NYC's Ali Forney Center with Rufus Wainwright performing! Charles Busch (Psycho Beach Party, Die Mommie Die!) will be hosting, and folks like NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn will be honored, too. It's at the Chelsea Art Museum (556 West 22nd St) from 7pm - 9:30pm.
This big, fabulous, important cocktail party (with chefs preparing uber-gourmet food) will be raising direly needed funds for the Ali Forney Center (ALIFORNEYCENTER.ORG), which provides housing and life-saving services (job training, education, counseling, health/medical care) for homeless LGBT youth. It's an amazing organization (I'm on the Board of Directors) and this is their big premiere, awesome gala event. It's gonna be fantastic and fun.
Folks like Tim Gunn, BD Wong, Keith Olbermann & Sandra Bernhard are all on the Honorary Board for this event, too. Here are all the further details (and see the attachment!):
Tickets are $150 each for all the booze and gourmet hors d'oeuvres you can imbibe, plus there's the big Rufus Wainwright performance (and a live and silent auction with killer trips and cool gift packages). It's not exactly cheap, but the money raised really goes directly to the kids aided by the Ali Forney Center. It pays rent on the apartments where they're housed, it buys them food, pays for educational and vocational programs. Really --- it's saving lives of queer kids kicked to the curb by families who can't accept them.
