YOUTUBE: Chita dances to Blood, Sweat, & Tears' Lucretia McEvil in a campy Carol Burnett show number that pre-dates Kiss of the Spider Woman by about 20 years.
That's a fabulous find! But actually Manuel Puig's novel "Kiss of the Spider Woman" was written in 1976 and translated in 1979 - so the idea is not that avant garde. The movie - though it had its merits - was a shitty interpretation of a wonderful book. William Hurt's portrayal was excruciating - another moronic example of casting heteros as drag queens. I never saw the Broadway show.
