When my boyfriend was killed in a car accident many years ago, her mother (the original Dear Abby) wrote a wonderful letter of condolence to his mother. He had worked in her bank as a teller and she was one of his favorite customers (he was a budding drag queen and quite a flamboyant character). That letter meant so much to that greieving mother. She distributed Xerox copies at the funeral.
So, Jeanne Phillips was obviously raised by a smart and fairminded mom.
