RUPAUL ON THE GONG SHOW

This was a pre-Supermodel look, which Ru worked before he was signed to Tommy Boy. We had been living together in NYC and he'd been doing drag looks to work in clubs. But Ru needed a break, so he headed back to his native San Diego to reinvent his image. Here he is on The Gong Show with the new look and the evil Salt 'n' Pepa as judges:

The others were Mary Ann Pascal, who was a bit-part actress on shitty TV crime dramas in the late 80s-early 90s. She was also a panelist on "Hollywood Squares" for a while. She was 30 here--looks older, doesn't she?

Argus Hamilton (the blond hillbilly tomato) was a stand-up comic whose biggest claim to fame was "The Richard Pryor Show" 10 years earlier.

Oh yes, they're the PERFECT talent judges! People who live in glass houses shouldn't gong...

As for Salt n Pepa, hmmm....they haven't been too busy lately, have they? Ru was way more entertaining and talented than all of them even back then...

OK, rant over...but oh, I feel so much better! :-)

I want to see the lost Geraldo episdoe on which Ru appeared as well as other celebutantes or club kids from the early nineties like the IT twins and Cody Ravioli

Ru wore that kinky chartreuse hair with pink eyeshadow and interrupted Geraldo on live television to announce, "Geraldo, I'm x-ing"

So John Waters

His singing wasn't so great, but, the bitch still had that special something even amidst the pile of sticking shit that was that show and it's panelists. I'd forgotten how funny AIDS was in 1988. I'm so glad a fucking asshole nobody comic reminded me what a laugh riot it was to watch my friends die all around me. Just hysterical...
